Denver Restaurants: Comfort Foods to Warm You Up In The Winter!

November 29, 2017

As the leaves begin to fall and the cold weather starts to set in, there’s nothing more that people crave in the winter than comfort foods that warm them right up. At DJ’s Cafe, we definitely have some of the best comfort foods on our menus that can help you deal with the dropping temperatures. We serve up Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch so you can get a warm meal for anytime of the day. So, what foods boost your body heat? Keep reading to find out!

Warming Breakfast Foods

While all of our dishes are served hot and fresh, there are a few that stand out for breakfast. First up, biscuits and gravy. This classic is one of the top breakfast comfort foods, and for good reason. We take two house made biscuits and smother them with spicy sausage gravy. You’ll also get two eggs served any style you prefer and a choice of meat.

While you might think soups and stews are meant for lunch and dinner, think again. At DJ’s Cafe, we have our signature Chorizo Breakfast Stew - perfect for a cold day! Our spicy chorizo and vegetable stew is topped with two poached eggs on toasted baguette croutons and garnished with citrus gremolata. This dish will not only warm you up, but it will definitely be a hit for your taste buds.

Warming Brunch Foods

With Brunch, you can either focus on a breakfast favorite, or a lunch one - it’s the best of both worlds! Our top choice for a warming brunch menu item would be the Sirloin Scramble. Another signature item of ours, the Sirloin Scramble includes sirloin steak tips, scrambled eggs, shallots, and crimini mushrooms served with home fry potatoes, seasonal fruit, and your choice of toast. Filling but also delicious, and you can eat steak before dinner!

Warming Lunch Foods

Our lunch menu also provides a variety of warming foods that will fit whatever you’re craving that day! The very first section on our menu includes hot sandwiches. While DJ’s Cafe is located in Colorado, we do make a mean Philly Melt. We use sirloin steak tips, sauteed crimini mushrooms, shallots, and provolone on a grilled freshly baked baguette. Or, if you’re looking for something different, try our Reuben sandwich. Thinly sliced house made corned beef is topped with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and house made Russian dressing, and placed on grilled marble rye bread. If you’re still feeling cold after our hot sandwiches, order a cup of soup on the side! We have fresh selections daily.

Finally, to really get that comforting, warming dish, try our Chicken Pot Pie, served at Brunch and Lunch. We make these in house so they’re fresh, and always use a puff pastry crust. You can’t beat that (especially in the winter)!
